David “Dave” Orcutt, 69, of Sarasota, FL passed away December 3rd, 2024 at Manatee Memorial Hospital, surrounded by family. He was born in Mt. Holly, NJ and grew up in Lindenwold, before moving to his beloved Long Beach Island, graduating from Southern Regional High School class of 1973. He spent the last 46 years in Sarasota, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Dorothy (Milnor) Orcutt; and his brother James “Jimmy” Orcutt. Dave is survived by his loving wife Martha (Harrison) Orcutt of 44 years; his son Daniel and wife Sarah (Janosko) Orcutt; son David Orcutt; daughter Jillian and husband Brent Smith; daughter Amanda Orcutt; and grandchildren Natalie, Leah and Owen. His siblings, John and Maggie (Strater); Donald; Kathie and Ed Shuerger; and Janice DeWeese. As well as several nieces and nephews.
He spent most of his life working as a carpenter in home construction and remodeling and was very passionate about the craft.
Dave was a very skilled, resourceful, goofy and loving individual. He loved being up in the mountains searching for waterfalls, camping, going fishing and being on the water, traveling, listening to Classic Rock (especially The Doors), working on DIY projects, antiquing, spending time with his grandkids, watching NASCAR and football, and eating anything chocolate.
In lieu of flowers, you can make a contribution in his name to The Sierra Club or National Heart Association.
I am so shocked and sorry to hear this. My condolences to you all. I am so glad that I got to see him at our 50th reunion this year. He was in high spirits and looked so healthy. I am going to miss his daily messages on Facebook to his family to acknowledge each of their birthdays and special occasions. It was obvious how much he loved and cared about you all. He was such a good guy. Lynn Jarvis Payne
He certainly will be missed. We always enjoyed spending many hours with him. He was a great person.
The pain and suffering and wondering have come to a close. Rest in peace my friend, rest in peace. 😉
