James (Jim) R. Mitchell

James (Jim) R. Mitchell, 93, of Sun City Center, FL, passed away on April 26, 2026.

Jim was born on October 26, 1932, in Wellsboro, PA, to Leonard and Emily Mitchell. He graduated from Wellsboro High School, Class of 1950.

Jim worked as a machinist at Corning Glass Works in Corning, NY, where he dedicated 42 years before retiring in 1993. A lifelong lover of sports and competition, he competed on factory teams in softball, basketball, and swimming. He continued his passion for athletics throughout his life, enjoying recreational tennis, horseshoes, and golf.

In 2007, Jim moved to Sun City Center, FL, where he remained active as a member of the SCC Softball Club, the Tennis Association, the Horseshoe Club, Pinochle and Euchre Clubs.

Above all, Jim’s family was his greatest priority. He cherished family camping trips, bicycle rides, and hiking adventures. He created lasting memories by teaching three generations of family and friends to waterski behind his beloved 1950s Whitehouse motorboat. He also shared his love of card games, especially Euchre, teaching children and grandchildren to play.

Jim is survived by his children, Pegi (Robert) McCauley of Sun City Center, James Mitchell of Corning, and Kelly (Scott) Peck of Corning. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Robert and Patrick (Kelly) McCauley; James, Ben (Megan) Mitchell, Meghan (Joshua) Berlin, Hannah and Mitchell Peck, as well as five great-grandchildren.

He is further survived by his brothers, Paul and Jerry (Pat) Mitchell and sisters, Jane and Susan Mitchell.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his wives, Donna (Hall) Mitchell and Beverly (Fish) Mitchell, and his brother, Leonard Mitchell II, and sister, Nancy Estrada.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 on July 12, 2026 at the Woodland Park pavilion in Wellsboro, PA.
